Mikado Supports Spar Women’s Challenge 2025

JOIN MIKADO ON SUNDAY 5 OCTOBER 2025, AT MARKS PARK SPORTS CLUB FOR THE SPAR WOMEN'S CHALLENGE JOZI RACE.

At Mikado, we believe in purpose-driven performance. This year, we are excited to collaborate for the very first time with the Spar Women’s Challenge in Jozi – a race that celebrates women’s strength while raising funds for causes that make a lasting difference.

Visit our stand where you will find quality Mikado Activewear on offer as well as our popular custom Twenty20Thrive commemorative Socks and Arm Protectors. R30 from every item sold will be donated towards the fundraising efforts of the race, which support impactful organisations – including Komani, a project of The Umtshayelo Foundation (TUF).

Launched in 2018, Komani was born out of the urgent need for menstrual education and access to sanitary products in under-resourced communities. Operating under TUF (“umtshayelo” meaning broom, symbolising the act of sweeping suffering away), Komani’s mission is both practical and empowering:

  • Reusable Pads at No Cost: Providing schoolgirls with sustainable menstrual products so their education is never interrupted.
  • Education & Awareness: Promoting dignity by breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation.
  • Economic Empowerment: Skills development & employment opportunities for previously unemployed women in their manufacturing hub.

Together with Spar, Mikado is running for dignity, opportunity, and a brighter future for women across South Africa.

Komani’s Vision

To liberate women from the dignity crisis of inadequate menstrual protection while creating a ripple effect of empowerment through education, confidence, and financial independence.

SPAR WOMEN'S CHALLENGE TSHWANE

Mikado was proud to sponsor the fun socks included in every participant’s goodie bag at the Spar Women’s Challenge Tshwane 2025!

This year marked our second Spar Women’s Challenge in Tshwane partnership, which was hugely successful as an event and was very rewarding to participate in. This year’s theme, #Twenty20Thrive, inspires women to thrive, not just survive – celebrating progress, strength, and joy in every area of life.

We thoroughly enjoyed engaging with participants at our our Carnival Arena stand, with Mikado quality products on offer, a photo wall, competitions and more!  Thank you #SPARWomensTshwane for a great day out dedicated to empowerment, community, and well-being.

Shop our limited-edition #Twenty20Thrive Succulent Range – including Arm Protectors, Crew Socks, and Low-Cut Socks. Sales are still open online, with proceeds going toward a meaningful cause until the end of the year.

Spar Women's CHallenge Tshwane gender based violence beneficiary

As part of our shared commitment to empowering women, we are proud to support the Basadi Ba Moshito (BBM) Foundation – the chosen beneficiary of this year’s Spar Women’s Challenge Tshwane.

Founded in 2021 by Antoinette Maluleke and her daughters, the BBM Foundation was born out of Antoinette’s personal journey as a survivor of domestic abuse. Today, it stands as a safe haven and catalyst for transformation, offering skills development, mental health support, and economic empowerment to women and girls facing socio-economic challenges.

In alignment with Spar’s dedication to uplifting communities and supporting survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), our partnership with BBM forms a powerful extension of the race’s impact. BBM is not only a non-profit organisation and information agency, but also a social support centre that empowers women to reclaim their confidence, independence, and purpose.

As part of this initiative, we’ve chosen to contribute to BBM Foundation’s incredible work by producing commemorative race-day socks and arm protectors, the proceeds of which will support their cause. These items are crafted and packaged by our own predominantly female workforce – a team deeply passionate about women’s empowerment and the values behind this campaign.

Through our collective effort, we hope to honour the strength of women and help drive meaningful impact in our community.

For every item sold during the Tshwane Race time window, R30 will be donated to the Spar GBV cause, with proceeds directly supporting BBM Foundation’s life-changing work. Together, we’re not just making movement happen on the track – we’re driving movement for good in the lives of women across Tshwane and beyond.
